The HeadsUp! Network uses state-of-the-art, direct broadcast satellite technology to deliver quality early childhood education. This program brings together a familiar medium which is television and provides training to early childhood educators in the 48 contiguous states. It serves as a constant source of information and brings leading experts to you in a cost effective manner.
When you subscribe to the HeadsUp! Network, you will receive a 24-inch satellite dish, which serves as the "antenna" that receives the signal. Also included is a receiver and remote control. The receiver, often called "the black box," looks like a VCR but operates in a completely different way. It must be located near your television and connected to it. The purpose of the receiver is to transform the signal into viewable television training programs.
This type of satellite technology was chosen because after the initial installation, staff can view the classes without contacting a technology expert. Teachers simply turn on the television and receiver; select the satellite channel 9622 for HeadsUp! Network programming or channel 9418 for University of Cincinnati programming and then watch. We strongly encourage programs to tape the broadcasts and begin a tape library to be used for future trainings and for those who want to reinforce the learning. Keep in mind that videotapes may not be sold, edited, duplicated, rented or rebroadcast through other networks or displayed before a paying audience without the express written consent of NHSA.
Technology Tip:Inside each receiver is a smartcard, which serves as the brain. It has a magnetic strip with important customer account information (similar to the strip on a credit or debit card), and it is by far the most important piece of the receiver. It needs to stay inside the receiver and without it, the system will not work. The smartcard is difficult to replace and costs approximately $75 plus shipping and handling.
