Under the Reauthorization of 1998, Congress requires more training and professional development for Head Start teachers and administrators. HeadsUp! was created to provide an economic means of bringing quality, research-based early childhood training to Head Start and early childhood professionals.

Through the training delivered via the HeadsUp! Network, staff and parents may earn the following types of credit.

  • Continuing Education Units (CEU) will be provided through the National Head Start Association. Applicants for Continuing Education Units will be required to complete a CEU application form and the action plans that correspond with each HeadsUp! Reading class. The CEU application along with the action plans must be mailed by the deadline. View the Guide to Student Credit for more information on the CEU application process or e-mail us at getcredit@nhsa.org.

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) HeadsUp! Reading participants may receive credit towards or for renewal of their Child Development Associate. After completion of the CEU process, participants submit their certificate to the Council for Professional Recognition and may receive credit. For more information on this process please contact hurcolleges@cdacouncil.org.

  • Associate's of Arts (AA) The National Head Start Association's HeadUp! Network is in partnership with the University of Cincinnati's Early Childhood Learning Community. HeadsUp! is a valuable tool in helping staff and parents earn professional degrees. Invest in the future of your staff and parents by incorporating this training into your program.
